CHUNKY IS IN!

I'm not talking waistlines...I'm talking jewelry!

I love chunky jewelry.  I always have.  There was a time when silver traded at around $6 an ounce (it is currently around $20 an ounce).  These were the early days of my jewelry career and I made HEAVY jewelry.  It was so fun.  It was big, it was bold and it was beautiful! 

But as the price of silver changed and increased, I moved away from the heavy, chunky jewelry.  It was just too expensive to make and sell, and the lighter pieces began to move more quickly (well, lighter in my definition...which still isn't too light). 

However, I love the heavy, chunky stuff.  And since I love it, I've decided to revisit it....in a big way.  Will it make up most of my collection?  No.  Will it be a part of my collection?  Yes. 

So ladies, I offer this advice to you on this cool Wednesday morning.....GO OFF THE JEWELRY DIET.  Buy big and wear big!

 Wear your jewelry as you live your life....BIG, BOLD and BEAUTIFUL!

Snow & Diamonds

WHERE'S THE SNOW??? 

I am told (again...sigh) that it is coming.  In fact, if the weather predictions are right, we may have the potential for 4 days of snow this week! 

I LOVE SNOW!  I love how it looks, I love the activities you can do in snow and I love the sparkle a fresh blanket of snow provides on a cold, clear morning. 

It reminds me of diamonds. 

And while we are on the subject of what I love...I would add diamonds to that list.  I love the high quality, flawless diamonds.  But I also love the more "rustic" diamonds that have flaws and unusual colors.  I feel the less perfect diamonds go really well with some of my "rustic", "handmade" pieces....not perfect by themselves, but perfect together.

Kids are told, when they want it to snow, to flush a piece of ice down the toilet and sleep with a spoon under their pillow.  I think I will add "playing with diamonds" to this list of rituals. 

If I can't have all the sparkle I want outside in the beautiful wilderness, I can at least have all the
sparkle I want in my jewelry.  Keep checking in with VEDELI DESIGNS.  I'll be adding some more diamond "sparkle" to my collection and if you have a free moment.....PRAY FOR SNOW!!!

 BOOT BRACELETS ARE HERE!!

 

 

I love, love, love this idea!  I never considered making my bracelets into boot bracelets, until my brilliant friend and businesswoman, Denise Cordero, suggested it.  And they are fabulous! 

 

Some of them sway, some of them jingle and all of the bracelets make any girl wearing them feel sassy and special!

Oatmeal & Bangles

One of my favorite lines in a song is from John Prine.  The line in the song is describing his bad morning and it goes like this....

"A bowl of oatmeal tried to stare me down...and won."

I love that line!  And the other morning, that is exactly how my morning started off.  It wasn't pretty. 

So I decided to blow off all my more pertinent responsibilities and hit the waxes.  I was working with some really cool new wax that actually softens with the heat of your hand...making it very pliable.

The final product were these new bangle bracelets.  I may play around with the oxidization and the finish of them, but I would say the final product is pretty cool.  I am going to be adding 18k gold bangles to mix in with them for that "oh-so" great look of silver & gold.

I don't always win.  Some mornings are better than others.  But I would say by the end of this particular day, the final score was Mary Ann - 1, Oatmeal - 0.  :)

New Mexico Fall

Fall.....my favorite time of year and one filled with much inspiration. 

Although most people don't think of New Mexico when the leaves are changing....I have to say, they are missing out. 

The southern Rockies lend themselves to a beautiful array of golden yellow and orange hues.  A few early frosts this year may be cutting our fall colors short, but I am enjoying the warm days, blue skies, cool nights and using the leaves of New Mexico to incorporate more color into my designs.

And I must admit, I am thinking of waxing my snowboard soon....what can I say, winter could be right around the corner.  Oh yeah!

Festival The Bazaar

Come see me this Saturday at "Festival The Bazaar" hosted by the Spanish Colonial Arts Society of Albuquerque.  I will be displaying my "Spanish Treasures Collection" there.

My "Spanish Treasures Collection" is collection of jewelry based on a Spanish coin.  The original Spanish coin (or real) was discovered by a friend of ours in Santa Fe, NM, as he was digging in his backyard.  It is possible the original coin had been in the ground since the 1500's, when the Spaniards arrived in Santa Fe.  A true treasure find!  A mold was made of the original coin and incorporated into this beautiful jewelry line. 

I'll be there with my good friend Denise Cordero of Diva D'Luxe.  Come see us and celebrate our Hispanic culture in the Land of Enchantment!
